Miller and wife Heather; daughters, Carol Edwards and husband George, Pam Cochrane and husband Billy, and Molly Russ and husband Steve; brother, Frank Worsham Jr. and wife Billie; sister, Elizabeth Leibrock. Oletha Worsham, 87, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2004 in Bellville. She was born on July 31, 1916 in Walker County, Texas to John Aaron and Jennie Texana Woods Randolph. She was a lifelong resident of the Heights. She retired from the Harris County Tax Office. Oletha is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam Houston Worsham; her brother, John Eugene Randolph; and her son-in-law, Ray Kahanek. She is survived by her daughter, Jennie Kahanek; and grandson, Mark Kahanek. According to Becky Bass Bonner and Josephine Lindsay Bass, a family story claims William Thomas Worsham and Tennessee moved to Texas in 1875 because William T. had killed his brother back in Louisiana.  William T. served in the Civil War and applied for pension from Mesa, Grimes Co, TX on Nov 15, 1903 when he was 68 years old. In the application, he stated he had lived in TX 27 years. He enlisted at Camp Moore, LA on March 29, 1862 for two years in Co. A 27th Louisiana infantry. 1.5.3.1.4.7. Samuel Jackson Worshamb 10 Sep 1819 probably Clinton, East Feliciana Parish) LA. The following was written by Jim Worsham, 2005:

The Civil War came in 1861 (272 Worshams fought for the South, 10 of them from LA). Three of Samual and Levinia's sons (whose father d 1858 and whose mother had remarried), Gustavus Adolphus, Samual Jackson, and John Farley, aged 15, 12, and 10, left LA and struck out for Indian Territory (now OK). (Possibly the boys were accompanied by their Uncle John Farley Worsham and his son Albert Malone who are believed to have left LA in 1867 and settled in Waco, TX. Albert later returned, permanently, to LA, but Uncle John Farley stayed and may have married an Indian woman there.) En route to Indian Territory, while stealing a mule, Gustavus was shot by a Confederate soldier. (When Gustavus d in 1922, he still had that lead ball buried in his hip.) In Indian Territory, Gustavus, Samual and John Farley began raising cotton on separate farms. They did not 'own' the land as all land belonged to the Chickasaw Nation. Their land was located near the town of Joiner City, in Pickens County. This is near the current town of Wilson, Carter County. Joiner City was destroyed by a tornado in the 1930's. Only the foundation of the schoolhouse remains today.
John Farley m Lucrecia McGee in 1880, a full blood Chickasaw, born on Pennington Creek, which is today Tishomingo, OK, by Judge Anderson. Gustavus (m 1880) and Samual (m 1881) married half-sisters Julia Ann Palmer and Mary Ella Palmer Perry by Robert Harris who later became Governor of the Chickasaw Nation. All three sons were married 'according to the laws of the Chickasaw Nation.'
By 1885, it became apparent that the federal government, in preparation for OK statehood, intended to liquidate commonly held tribal land and institute 'personal' ownership of land. Individual Indians would be allotted individual parcels of land which they would 'own.' It become important that Indians be registered as Indian.
Sarah Palmer (mother of Julia Ann and Mary Ella) petitioned the Chickasaw Council for citizenship. She was rejected. Probable causes: Sarah spent her early years in FT. Smith, AR (which was not Indian Territory), married two white men in Ft. Smith, and her mother Mary Gamble Moseby (1/2 Chickasaw from Pigeon Roost, MI) had also settled in Ft. Smith. In late 1885, the Dawes Commission was created by the federal government to register all Chickasaws. John Farley and Lucrecia registered, with their children. Sarah hired a lawyer and filed, again, with the Dawes Commission for citizenship at Vinita, Indian Territory. The family members included in Sarah's application were:

Fourteen people testified on Sarah's behalf. Her application was denied 15 Nov 1896. Sarah Palmer appealed, in 15 Dec 1896, to The U.S. Court of The Southern District of Indian Territory at Ardmore, I.T. The appeal was upheld 8 Jan 1897 (reversing the Dawes Commission decision). Chickasaw citizenship was granted on 5 Feb 1898 to all applicants except Samual Worsham and Gustavus Adolphus Worsham. The Chickasaw Nation appealed this decision to The U.S. Supreme Court 11 Jul 1898. On 15 May 1899, The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the U.S. Court of the Southern District of Indian Territory favoring Sarah Palmer, et al, putting the applicants back onto the citizenship list. In 1902, Chickasaw and Choctaw officials convinced the U.S. Congress to create a new Choctaw-Chickasaw Citizenship Court to make all decisions on citizenship. The Citizenship Court immediately declared all prior citizenship decisions, by all commissions and courts, null and void…. In March 1903, Sarah, et al, once more, petitioned for citizenship, Case 39. Her case was made more difficult by the Citizenship Court's decision that all evidence from previous trials was disallowed. Sarah was able to gather 11 testimonies as some witnesses had moved away, or had died. The decision took one year and a half. On 28 Nov 1904, the Court denied her petition. Sarah's denial seems to have been part of an attitude of a Court utterly dedicated to the rejection of applications: of 3,679 applications, only 156 were added to the Chickasaw-Choctaw Rolls. Today, only an act of Congress can add a name to the Chickasaw Rolls. It has never been done.
As for Samual Jackson Worsham, the decision was a disaster. His farmland could be claimed by any Chickasaw or Choctaw who wished to claim it. He and his brother John Farley worked a deal. John Farley asked for Samual's land as a part of his (John's) Indian allotment. In 1906, the governments of the 'Five Civilized Tribes' were legally terminated. On that day, John Farley sold Samual's land back to Samual for one dollar.
The house currently on what was Samual's land in Carter Co, OK is not the original house. That house burned down in 1922, while everyone was at church. Daughters Audrey and Julianna had a house moved from Wilson, OK to the site of the original house.

"Julia was 1/8 Chickasaw. Her father was white, Thomas J. (James) Palmer, and her mother, Sarah Moseby Palmer was ¼ Chickasaw. This was Sarah’s 2nd marriage. Her 1st marriage was to Thomas’s brother, Frederick Palmer. Julia acquired U.S. citizenship in 1886 ‘by allotment’ (per 1900 Federal Census). Prior to 1886, Julia was Chickasaw citizen. Thomas d 1865, at Pine Bluffs, AR after being conscripted into the Arkansas Confederate Army."

Wilson-Services for Kelly C. Worsham, 83, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ash Street Church of Christ with his son, Ronnie Worsham, officiating. Interment will be at Bomar Point Cemetery. Worsham died Oct. 10, 1998, in Healdton. He was born Feb. 17, 1915, in Western Carter County, to Harry O. and Addie Ruth Kimbrell Worsham. Mr. Worsham was a lifelong resident of western Carter County where he was employed by Cox and Hammons Oil Co. From 1949 until his retirement in 1980. He grew up in the Wilson area where he attended school at Zaneis, graduating in 1936. He married the former Treva Leotha Callahan. She preceded him in death July 4, 1964. He later married Wanda Dunigan. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Worsham was preceded in death by infant twin daughters in 1938; three sisters, Allene Saunders, Faye Morrison and Rita Lawrence; and a brother, Haskell Worsham. He is survived by his wife, Wanda, of the home in Healdton; three daughters and their husbands, July and Jim Enos of Winterhaven, Fla., Jane and Bill Strickland of Velma, and Joy and Bob Doyle of Plano, Texas; five sons and their wives, Dean and Shirley Worsham of Elmore City, Don and Karen Worsham of Tom Bean, Texas, Tom and Jackie Worsham of Healdton, Jackie and Pam Worsham, and Ronnie and Tana Worsham, of Plano; a brother and his wife, Grady and Myrtle Worsham of Wilson; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. Bearers are grandsons, Larry, Mike, Wade, Brandon, Kale, Casey and James Worsham, Lance and Justin Strickland and Weston Doyle. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at Alexanderson Funeral Home, Wilson.

GROVE - Carl Wesley Lee was born Nov 23, 1915 in Wynnewood, OK and passed away Feb 5, 2004, at his home in Grove. He was the son of John Arnold and Johnnie Lou Lee. He was a long time resident of Garvin Co, and had moved to Grove approximately 6 years ago. Carl was a charter member of Midway Baptist Church, Pernell, OK. for fifty years before moving his membership to First Baptist Church, Wynnewood, OK. Carol retired from the Sun Oil Company after 43 years of service. He enjoyed quail hunting, training and working with bird dogs. Carl also enjoyed playing dominoes with his friends at the Honey Creek Retirement Village in Grove. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a military police during his time spent in the military. Carl married Fern Louise Mann on Dec 24, 1934. She preceded him in death Nov 20, 1997. He is survived by 4 children: Pat Morris and her husband, James, of Tulsa; Shirley Worsham and her husband, Dean, of Elmore City, OK; Lawanda Bass and her husband, Lendell of Grove; Larry Lee and his wife Bunny, of Hennepin, OK and a daughter-in-law, Golinda Lee of Mexia, TX. Carl is also preceded in death by a son, Arnold Keith Lee of Mexia, TX. Carl and Fern have 9 living grandchildren: Carla Coffman, Kent Bass, Sonya Crowder, Teri Allison, Larry Worsham, Angie Hisaw, J. Wes Lee, John W. Lee, and Tanya Swinburn. they also have 3 deceased grandchildren: Sherri Worsham, Jacqualine Lee, and Andrew Lee. They have sixteen great-grandchildren.

On Sat, Jan. 29, 2000, our dear and loving son, brother, dad, companion, nephew, cousin and friend, Wade Worsham, lost his five-year battle with cancer, one day before his 30th birthday. However, he won the war as he went on to be with God and other loved ones that have gone before him. Wade is survived by his parents, Joy and Robert Doyle; his daughter and her mother, Ashtyn Worsham and Angela Adams; and his brother, Weston Doyle. He also leaves a large, close-knit family of uncles, aunts and cousins, the families of Dean and Shirley Worsham, Don and Karen Worsham, Judy and Jim Enos, Tom and Jackie Worsham, Jane and Bill Strickland, Jack and Pam Worsham and Ronnie and Tana Worsham. He is also survived by his step-grandparents, Clarence and Mary Ellen Doyle. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Kelley and Treva Worsham. Wade graduated from Plano East Senior High in 1988 and from East Texas State University in Commerce in 1994 where he completed a bachelor of science degree in radio and television. Wade was a gifted songwriter and musician and loved most kinds of sports. He was a member of the Northeast Church in Garland. A special fund has been established at Wade's church for his two-year old daughter, Ashtyn.

GAINESVILLE- Rita Lawrence of Gainesville, a homemaker, died Saturday at a Denton hospital. She was 59. Funeral will be today at Commerce Street Church of Christ in Gainesville, where she was a member. Burial will be in Fairview Cem in Gainesville. Mrs. Lawrence was born in Wilson, OK. 1.5.3.1.4.7.2.5.  Ramer Worsham "Raymon" His name is spelled Raymer on his headstone. He was b Joiner City, Healdton Township, Indian Territory, 1/16 Chickasaw Indian, & bur Bomar Point Cemetery, Wilson, Carter Co, OK. (Jim Worsham, 2005)

1.5.3.1.4.7.2.6 Patricia Aurelia Worsham may be an adopted daughter of Gustavus Adolphus Worsham. Her obit says she was born to Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Worsham 10 Oct 1917 in Carter Co, OK. She is in the 1930 Hewitt, Carter Co, OK census living with the son of Gustavus and Julia Worsham named Joe Worsham. She is listed as his niece named Aurelia age 12 b OK and both her parents b in OK. Joe's mother, a widow, Julie Worsham age 69 b AR is also in the home.
The Cottage Grove Sentinel, 19 Jan 2005, included her photo:

"Patricia Aurelia Wysong, a 46-year resident of Cottage Grove, died Jan 14 at the age of 87 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Worsham in Carter County, Okla., on Oct 10, 1917. She graduated from high school and lived in Silver City, N.M., Texas and Oklahoma. She married Autrey Wysong in Reno, Nev., on Jan 14, 1959. He died on Dec 9, 1988. She was a homemaker. Her hobbies included attending church and church functions, gardening, plants and playing cards. She was a member of the Church of Christ on Pennoyer Avenue. She is survived by her stepson and his wife: JP and Sharon Wysong of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild. A service was held Tue. Interment will be at the Private Lane Memorial Gardens.Memorial contributions can be made to Operation Independence, PeaceHealth of Cottage Grove or the Church of Christ."

Mary Ella Palmer was dau of Sarah Moseby (1/4 Chickasaw) and Frederick Palmer, Sarah’s 1st husband. Mary Ella was the ½ sister of Julia Ann Palmer who m Gustavus Adolphus Worsham.  Mary Ella Palmer, herself, was previously m to Guy T. Perry, nicknamed “Rat,” who was a traveling salesman. Guy was b abt 1853, m Mary Ella 1 Sep 1876 in Tishomingo, Tishomingo Co, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. Guy was divorced abt 1880 and d before 1897, probably in Kansas. Their children were raised by Mary Ella and Samual.

1.  Frederick Oscar Perry b 11 Oct 1877, d 6 Jan 1969, m Mary Ella Putman.  Children: Paul Raymond Perry b 17 Mar 1923 at Cornish, Jefferson Co, OK. md Wanda Jean Chin, b abt 1925, dau of Buford Chin.  Paul and Wanda had a son Dana Paul Perry b abt 1949 in Pico Rivera, CA, who m Deborah Alaniz 12 Oct 1974. Dana and Deborah have a son.

2.   Ada Perry b abt 1878, d before 17 Aug 1896, unmarried.
